What is a Trainee?

A Trainee has completed the RNA Umpiring course (4 weeks) and the online theory exam.  The trainee is placed on games at RNA (usually 8am or 9.30am) with an experienced umpire/mentor right beside you to guide and instruct you with the finer points of becoming a competent and confident Umpire.

How many games a week will I get as a Trainee?

There will be a roster system for trainees. Trainees can only be placed on certain time slots and that only allows us a certain number of Trainees per week. The roster will be as fair as possible.

How long will I be a Trainee?

As long as it takes to ensure that you are confident and competent, this can be anywhere from a couple of months to a couple of years.....everybody is different.

When will I know if I am ready to be assessed?

Your experienced umpire/mentor will advise when you are ready for assessment and the RNA will come to a game and watch you. You will find out on the spot if you have passed. If you pass you will then be a qualified Umpire. ☺

How much money can I earn?

You can earn anywhere from $8-$16 for each game you umpire once you are qualified. The amount depends on your level of accreditation. When you are a trainee you are not paid.
